The Mover: Many
of us suffer from constipation, either occasional or
chronic, and are unaware that most systems of natural
healing offer potential solutions for long-term healing.
According to naturopathic theory, constipation is a
sign of other imbalances in the body needing attention.
From the naturopathic perspective, resolving constipation
patterns requires more than just providing laxative
relief and dietary adjustments. It includes gentle,
long-term strengthening and balancing of bowel function
as well as regulating the liver, which is thought to
control intestinal contractions and resolve mucus accumulations.
The
Mover includes a number of herbs well known for these
actions in traditional folk herbalism, plus those for
general strengthening and tonifying of the eliminative
organs. Sage and Onion provide preventative action against
spasming, an important comfort factor in any laxative
or bowel cleansing combination. In the Middle Ages and
Renaissance, Sage was popular in Europe for increasing
longevity, much as Ginseng has been prized for centuries
in Asian cultures. Wahoo is a Native American name for
the American Dogwood or Burning Bush, a familiar landscaping
plant. It is an integral herb in many indigenous tribal-healing
traditions.
