The beta-carotene
is from a natural source mixed carotenoid that contains
alpha-carotene, cryptoxanthein, lutein, zeaxanthin, lycopene.
Vitamin A activity is only claimed for the beta-carotene,
but the other caroteinoids have other important biological
acitvities, and some are even more powerful antioxidants
than are beta-carotene. The combination of carotenoids
is more natural since foods contain all of the carotenoids.
There is also an extra margin of safety when some of the
vitamin A activity is provided in the carotenoid form,
because carotenoids are essentially non-toxic even at
high doses in contrast to pre-formed vitamin A which is
toxic at high doses.
